Lambeth Walk
Sometimes noteriety is more than substance and such is this weeks location. I'm sure everyone who hears the lyrics:
Any time you're Lambeth way,
Any evening, any day,
You'll find us all
Doin' the Lambeth Walk.
Can't help but shout out “OI!” But sadly the street that was once home to market stalls and a hearty working class community is now a shell of it's former self – not helped by being destroyed in the blitz. Council flats and the odd shop are about all you get – one notable exception is the wonderful Pelham Mission Hall, now home to Morley College's sculpture studio (and incidently where I learnt to carve stone) – It's quite some building.
So whistle a happy tune and have a pint in the Jolly Gardeners when you reach the end. Oi!
